Your ride really does have an impact

Young people are over-represented in road deaths, we did RYDA and hope we can improve that.

This quote was reflective of the many comments from the 164 students from Leongatha Secondary College, Korumburra Secondary College and Mirboo North Secondary College, who recently participated in the RYDA road safety workshop, funded by the Bass Coast Cycle Challenge.

Held at Korumburra Recreation Centre, the students were highly engaged in the rewarding and sometimes confronting program on driver education.

The interactive workshops challenge senior high school students to change the way they think about road safety. The workshops give students a unique opportunity to learn essential life skills, at a critical time. Whether driving, or travelling as a passenger, or cycling, or walking, RYDA sessions give student the tools and strategies they need to make good choices when on the road.

These programs are an important step for the Bass Coast and South Gippsland regions, which can now boast to have dedicated education programs which support not only our children but also educates parents … all aimed at reducing the road toll.

Thanks to all who have ridden in the BCCC since 2010, over 3000 students from South Gippsland the Bass Coast regions have had access to intensive road safety education courses which work towards saving lives on our roads.

These latest sessions also couldn’t go ahead without the support of the Korumburra Recreation Centre, the Korumburra Show Society and also the Rotary Clubs of Leongatha and Nunawading who volunteered on the day.
