“I might be biased, but …“
A message from our event founder Gavin Slavin
The countdown is officially underway to our 10th* Bass Coast Cycle Challenge, to be held Saturday, 5 November 2022 in Inverloch. (*would be 12 if Covid hadn’t happened!).
After two years on hold (thanks Covid!), I am so very happy to see the event go ahead, and also to see the registrations start rolling in from 1 July.
This year’s event sees a return to our four cornerstone rides: 121km, 85km, 53km, 40km. The variety of routes offered provide something suitable for a range of riders - from beginner/recreational riders (40km, 53km), to the more experienced rider seeking a longer challenge in the 85km and 121km with more climbs, including the infamous Mt Misery!
I might be bias, but each ride has some of the most spectacular scenery you’ll see in Victoria … with the rolling hills of the Strzelecki Ranges and the beautiful coastline heading back into the Inverloch town ship. It’s breathtaking, no matter how many times you see it!
As well as the views, one of the really special and memorable aspects of the BCCC is the friendly, chilled nature of our event, and as always, we will cap riders at 1000 to maximise the enjoyment and safety of our riders. With rider numbers capped, we highly recommend early bird entries. Enter before 16 August to guarantee a rider jersey for event day, and also go in the draw for one of three free ride entries, jersey and new helmet.
Inspired to achieve change
It’s been 12 years since I founded this event, inspired to improve road safety for riders, drivers, all road users, after a close friend was in a serious accident. Over a decade later, I am so proud, and thankful to everyone who has ridden in and supported the BCCC. Together we have enabled over 2500 local students to participate in game changing driver / road safety education programs in schools across the Bass Coast and South Gippsland regions.
Your cycling efforts have made a real and tangible difference to many lives, and through educating our local youth, your support will continue to have a positive long-term ripple effect into the future.
Thank you to everyone who has helped the BCCC grow to be one of the best recreational charity cycling events on the calendar.
We hope you will join us and look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 5 November.
