People  power and community spirit shine at the 2025 Bass Coast Cycle Challenge

The sea breeze, some rain and the hum of hundreds of spinning wheels set the scene for another unforgettable Bass Coast Cycle Challenge (BCCC) on Saturday, 8 November.

Riders from across Victoria, and beyond, descended on Inverloch to take part in one of the region’s most scenic and community-minded cycling events, across five routes ranging from 40km to 121km.

This year’s event marked a special return to A’Beckett Street, Inverloch with the start-finish line and pop-up market bringing vibrant energy and many smiles, despite the rain!

“The event once again delivered its signature blend of challenge, camaraderie and cause - raising vital funds to support road safety education in local schools.” Said Event Director Gavin Slavin.

“The Bass Coast Cycle Challenge is more than a ride – it’s a celebration of people coming together for a good cause. Every pedal stroke helps us make local roads safer and gives young people the knowledge to ride with confidence.”

The BCCC has supported RYDA to reach over 3000 students, raising awareness, arming the region’s youth with skills and knowledge needed to be safer on our roads

And according to RYDA’s John Elliott, Head of Program Delivery for Australia, we can see the difference these education programs make.

“Recent data shows these programs are working - In the last two years, not one young person (17 -25) and not one cyclist has died on roads in the Bass Coast or South Gippsland regions.

“RYDA goes beyond the work in the classroom, we teach youth to be mobile, embed safe behaviour, so they can continue to be mobile, access employment and live productive lives.” John added.

Cyclists have praised the event’s organisation, scenic routes and friendly volunteers, with many already pledging to return in 2026.

Local businesses also enjoyed a strong weekend of trade, as the influx of visitors filled cafes, accommodation and shops across the region.

The Bass Coast Cycle Challenge, now in its 15th year, continues to grow as a highlight on Victoria’s cycling calendar, proof that when sport, community and purpose align, everyone wins.
