Introducing our 2022 ambassadors

We are VERY proud to announce four amazing ambassadors for this year’s event, to be held on Saturday 5 November, starting and finishing in Inverloch.

Here is a little bit of an introduction to each ambassador. We can’t wait for you to find out more about these four incredible people in upcoming articles.

Meet our 2022 BCCC ambassadors …

Katrina Sheppard: 50+, Phillip Island local. Likes to try and ride at least three days a week when work permits! Loves the freedom riding gives her (and the coffee at the end of the ride too!). Is undecided if she should ride the 53km or the 85km in the BCCC.

Gavin Jarvis: 50+, Traralgon local. Rides with the Valley Cycling Club and trains with the Valley Triathlon Club. He says he is “shocking in a headwind”, but loves the freedom of riding. As a high leg amputee he is hoping to ride a hand cycle in the 2022 BCCC.

Alyn ‘Pinky’ Spencer: 50+, well known Phillip Island local. Pinky grew up in Holland, so cycling is in her blood! She says riding makes her feel alive. Through the years she gave triathlons a go but then says “I decided I’m ruining a great ride with a swim and a run!” LOL! Pinky has her eye on the 121km ride in the BCCC, alongside a few Phillip Island cyclist buddies. Pinky loves the BCCC because it caters for every level of rider and allows her to meet new mates from the area.

Terence (Terry) Shannon - (OAM JP): at just 81 years young, Terry is an Inverloch local with an extraordinary story which has taken him from the tiny Victorian seaside town to Russia, China and beyond. Terry switched to his e-bike after being found unconscious on a rail trail with a cardiac issue. He is looking at riding his e-bike in the 40km BCCC this year. When asked what advice he would give people deciding to enter the BCCC, Terry says: “I think one of the best slogans that any commercial enterprise ever had was the one which the athletic equipment company NIKE promulgated for some time, you may remember that it urged one and all to ‘Just Do IT’”.
