Ambassador Q & A

Alyn Pinky Spencer

“Deb Reilly inspired me to ride and work hard to get where I want to be with my cycling ... When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I found myself riding to find peace.. It wasn’t easy but we got there in the end 😍”

Q&A with Pinky

Name: Alyn Spencer better known as Pinky

Age: 53

Located: Cowes, Phillip Island where I own a run a caravan park

Cycling experience / level: 20+ year veteran

Are you a member of a cycling group? I am an administrator of the Phillip Island Cyclists FB group and have been riding with them and organising rides and social functions for them for around 20 years.. Used to play a large part in organising and riding in the Murray to Moyne.. I think I did 5 or 6

What ride will you be entering in 2022 BCCC? Looking at the 121 with a few PI Cyclists mates

What bike will you be riding? Normal road bike

How often do you ride? 4 or 5 times per week.. If not road I’ll be on Zwift!

What inspired you to ride initially? It’s in my blood having grown up in Holland and picked it up again after I had the kids, met Deb Reilly on the basketball court, she invited me to tag along for a spin, we rode together after I started doing some short course triathlons.. I then decided I’m ruining a great ride with a swim and a run 😉😂😂

Why do you ride now? For the friends I have made and I can say I am passionate about cycling

What does riding give you / how does it make you feel? Gives me a massive sense of achievement and I feel alive after a ride

What are some of your favourite riding routes in Victoria? Love the Bass Hills!

Do you have a favourite riding memory / story?  The M2M’s we did were absolutely amazing ...  Leaving on a Friday in a minibus with a great support crew is a highlight. Any of the 50km loops around the Island with the Summer visitors finishing with Coffee in the sunshine also makes me smile

What do you like about the Bass Coast Cycle Challenge? It caters for every level rider and allows me to meet new riders from around the area and beyond

What advice would you give to anyone teetering on whether to enter the ride or not? DO IT NOW!
